Southwest Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Memorial Hermann Southwest's Level II/III Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery (NICU) offers the highest level of care that can be provided for newborns. That means your newborn will receive the care and attention it needs in our facility.
In addition to caring for babies born at Southwest, critical neonates from all over the region are transferred to our NICU.
The 40-bed NICU is equipped with the latest neonatal technology to treat the complex medical problems often present in premature infants. Problems common to NICU babies include:
- kidneys and digestive tracts that don't function well
- breathing problems due to immature lungs
- intestines damaged by infection
- slow heart rate
- fluid buildup on the brain
- a low red-blood-cell count
- damage to the eyes
A team of highly skilled professionals provides top-quality care to NICU patients. Board certified neonatal physicians (neonatologists), pediatricians, nurses and other specialists are available around the clock to attend to all of your baby's special needs at this most important time.
Family-centered care is a feature of the NICU where patients' families have access to private sleep rooms for transitions before discharge, a lounge area with kitchen and sibling play area, a computer learning center and other amenities.
If you would like more information about the NICU, or a tour of the 20,000-square-foot facility, call 713-456-5797.
