Professionals Honor Memorial Hermann Program Leader
Houston,
Texas, November 12, 2004 -- The medical director of the Memorial
Hermann Prevention and Recovery Center, Eugene A. Degner, M.D., has received the
Distinguished Advocate Award from the Houston Chapter of the
Texas Association of Addiction Professionals (TAAP).
The award was presented during the 2004 SPECTRUM 31 st Annual Institute
on Alcohol and Drug Studies.
“Dr. Degner is highly respected by physicians, employee assistance
professionals and addiction experts in Houston and beyond,” said
Prevention and Recovery Center CEO Matt Feehery. “He combines
compassion, humility, ethics and professionalism in all of his interactions
with patients, family members and colleagues.”
TAAP presents the award to people whose work has touched many lives
in the recovery community, and whose personal testimony, unconditional
compassion and tireless support inspire others.
Dr. Degner’s own recovery from alcoholism, since April 1, 1978,
moved him to champion quality care for those affected by alcoholism
and drug dependency. He holds certification from the Society of Addiction
Medicine and has served in various leadership positions on the Harris
County Medical Society’s Physicians Counseling Committee.
Dr. Degner has been with Memorial Hermann Healthcare System since
1997 and has been the medical director of Memorial Hermann Prevention
and Recovery Center since it opened four years ago. The Prevention
and Recovery Center is a premiere treatment center for alcohol and
drug abuse. It offers an acute, residential detoxification day program
