Memorial Hermann Announces Sports Medicine and Human Performance Institute
Providing Exceptional Patient Care through Diagnosis and Treatment of Injuries – and Securing Excellence in Human Performance

Houston, Texas, September 28, 2005 --The new partnership between Memorial Hermann and the Houston Rockets took center court today in Memorial Hermann’s home court as the team underwent preseason physicals at the Wellness Center.

At the same time, Memorial Hermann announced it is establishing a Sports Medicine and Human Performance Institute, a center of excellence that will serve the Rockets, Comets and Aeros and Memorial Hermann patients from around the world. In addition to orthopedic surgery and sports performance and enhancement research, services will include training and conditioning, education, rehabilitation and therapy, radiology, nutritional counseling, sports psychology, and more.

“The Sports Medicine and Human Performance Institute will provide professional athletes as well as weekend warriors and former athletes with a comprehensive, outcomes-driven resource,” said Dan Wolterman, Memorial Hermann President.

Added Thomas O. Clanton, M.D., Rockets team physician: “Through the affiliation between Memorial Hermann and The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, the Institute stands to become one of the nation’s finest such programs. I am proud to be a part of such an ambitious undertaking.”

Clanton is the medical director of orthopedic surgery at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center and professor and chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the UT Medical School at Houston.

The Sports Medicine and Human Performance Institute will begin operations at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center this fall and will expand into new facilities in the Memorial Hermann Medical Plaza in December 2006. Ultimately, the Institute will have locations throughout the Memorial Hermann system.
