Top Ratings for Patient Satisfaction Earned by Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital

The Woodlands, Texas, September 2, 2004 A steadfast commitment to patients and families pushed Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospitals’ in-patient satisfaction scores into the nation’s top 10 percent, according to the most recent results documented by Press Ganey Associates, the country’s leading independent healthcare satisfaction measurement company.

The facility ranked in the 91 st percentile for all hospitals nationally, the 90 th percentile among similarly sized hospitals, and 99 th percentile for hospitals in Southeast Texas, according to Press Ganey.

“Our results are a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our physicians, employee partners and volunteers to care for our patients and their families,” said Steve Sanders, CEO of Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital.

The outstanding performance improvement over the past two years also earned the prestigious Press Ganey 2004 Compass Award for the hospital.

“This award is given to acknowledge organizations that demonstrate a commitment to using patient satisfaction data to improve the quality of healthcare,” said Press Ganey president and CEO Mel Hall, Ph. D. “That is what Memorial Hermann The Woodlands and Press Ganey are committed to.”

“Memorial Hermann The Woodlands’ employees, volunteers and physicians have embraced the importance of great customer relations,” added Sandra Zwick, AVP of Hospital Operations.

Officials at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands attributed the ratings boost in part to the hospital’s new patient tower, which features a Family Birth Center and was designed to include recommendations made by patients and a community women’s advisory council.

“Before building our new Family Birth Center, we took the time to listen to the community we serve,” said Patient Care Services AVP Pat Goodpastor, citing one example of patient-influenced design. “We learned what our patients considered the ideal care unit and delivered accordingly.”

Other innovative features added at the hospital in the past two years include a neonatal intensive care unit, an interventional cardiac catheterization lab and the Memorial Hermann e-ICU Advantage, a state-of-the-art system that supports on-site care with 24-hour remote monitoring. Also, with the comfort and convenience of patients’ families in mind, the new patient rooms are equipped with sofa beds, Internet access and other amenities
