By U.S.
NEWS & WORLD REPORT
Houston – Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center and Memorial
Hermann|TIRR have again been listed among the nation’s top hospitals
by U.S. News & World Report, in the magazine’s annual “America’s
Best Hospitals” issue. Memorial Hermann|TIRR, which has been
listed for 17 years, was ranked 5th among rehabilitation hospitals.
Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center ranked 35th in kidney disease
treatment and 43rd in the ear, nose and throat specialty.
The
annual study of more than 5,100 U.S. hospitals included the two facilities
among just 176 hospitals to meet the rigorous criteria required
to be recognized as a “Top 50 hospital” in key medical/surgical specialties. The magazine
scores the quality of inpatient care based on each acute care hospital’s
teaching status, advanced technological capabilities, patient volumes, reputation
with physicians, mortality statistics, nursing proficiency and other measures
relevant to each specialty. The rankings for rehabilitation hospitals are derived
by the organization’s reputation among board-certified specialists. The
rankings will be published in U.S. News & World Report's July
10 issue, on newsstands next week.
“This acknowledgement of the heroic work that is done at Memorial Hermann
reflects the ongoing dedication and commitment of the clinicians, employees,
researchers and physician partners who care for these patients,” said Dan
Wolterman, Memorial Hermann president and CEO.
“It is an honor to be named to this list, and we are very proud to have
been included every year it has been published,” added Jean Herzog Ph.D.,
interim chief executive officer of Memorial Hermann|TIRR.
“This national
recognition highlights the expertise Memorial Hermann provides and
demonstrates why this hospital is at the forefront of medical breakthroughs
every day,” said
Juanita Romans, chief executive officer. “We are also pleased
by the continued recognition of our kidney disease program and the
addition of the ear, nose & throat
specialty in this year’s rankings.”
