Disorder Programs among nation’s best.

— U.S.
News & World Report’s nationwide survey of board-certified
physicians once again has ranked Memorial
Hermann Hospital in the Texas
Medical Center among the country’s best providers of kidney
disease and hormonal disorder treatments.
Of more than 6,000
hospitals in the United States, Memorial Hermann is among only 177
ranked in any of the survey’s 17 categories.
Memorial Hermann ranked 39 th in the nation for hormonal disease treatment
and 48 th in kidney disease treatment. The rankings will be published
in U.S. News & World Report’s July 12 issue, on
newsstands next week.
The survey scores the quality of inpatient care based on hospital
reputation, mortality statistics, hospital volume, nursing proficiency,
availability of key technologies, and other measures relevant to each
specialty.
“Our continued recognition illustrates a commitment by our
physicians and staff to provide the best, most innovative care possible
to our patients,” said Medical Director Steve Allen, MD. “We
are pleased by this honor and congratulate the kidney disease and hormonal
disorder specialists associated with our programs.”
Chronic kidney
disease affects more than 7.5 million adults, with diabetes and high
blood pressure creating particular risks. Since the 1980s, doctors
associated with Memorial Hermann Hospital and The University of Texas
Medical School at Houston have been at the forefront of developing
drugs that help prevent patients’ bodies from rejecting transplanted
kidneys. Surgeons at Memorial Hermann Hospital have performed more
than 2,500 kidney transplants.
