Memorial Hermann Imaging Center Brings Latest in Diagnostic Services to Memorial City
Houston, Texas, June 15, 2006 – The new Memorial Hermann Imaging Center at Memorial Hermann Memorial City brings state-of-the-art diagnostic technology and outpatient services to the community. This conveniently located facility is designed to maximize patient comfort and minimize stress by delivering outstanding service in a soothing environment.
“By combining the latest healthcare advances, the very best customer service and a calming atmosphere, we hope to provide a different kind of experience for our patients,” said Wayne Voss, CEO of Memorial Hermann Memorial City.
The 22,000-square-foot center is the first facility to open in Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Plaza 4, located at 925 Gessner. Additional outpatient services will be added next year.
The Memorial Hermann Imaging Center offers a full range of technologies, including a 16-slice computed tomography scanner (CT), a laboratory, X-ray with fluoroscope and ultrasound with vascular capabilities.
Its 3-Telsa magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) unit is twice as strong as conventional MRIs and provides greatly enhanced imaging and diagnostic capabilities. “The images are much more detailed, the testing is much faster and more comfortable for patients, and movement is less likely to affect the images,” explained senior radiologist David Light, M.D.
The center’s nuclear medicine capabilities include dual-head cameras and PET/CT. The latter technology combines positron emission tomography (PET) with CT scanning to identify and pinpoint abnormal metabolic activity in the body. This tool helps diagnose both cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.
“Combining these technologies provides more precise information and helps us determine the best course of treatment for patients,” said Shelly Broline, M.D., medical director of nuclear medicine.
“The new Imaging Center offers convenience for both patients and physicians,” said James Polfreman, head of imaging services for the Memorial Hermann system. “Patients will benefit from the availability of advanced diagnostic services near where they live and work, and physicians receive reports and images within 10 hours of the exam. We also contract with most health insurance companies in the area. This new facility is part of our plan to open full-service imaging centers in locations throughout Houston.”
