First Senior VP-Chief Medical Officer
Houston, Texas, May 22, 2003 --
Memorial Hermann Healthcare System President & CEO Dan Wolterman
announced the appointment of John M. Zerwas, MD, as the first Senior
Vice President-Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Memorial Hermann Healthcare
System. Zerwas will assume the post July 7.
Today, more
than ever before, the increasing complexities of health care and the
growing importance of our ongoing clinical quality improvement efforts
call for a physicians perspective and counsel at the senior executive
level, said Wolterman. Dr. Zerwas has shown outstanding
leadership as a clinician, business executive and governance leader
over the last 20 years.
An anesthesiologist,
Zerwas earned his doctorate in medicine at Baylor College of Medicine.
He has been affiliated with Memorial Hermann since 1985 and has served
as a board member since 1994. A member of the Memorial Hermann Healthcare
System and Memorial Hermann Hospital System boards, he chairs the System
Quality Committee and the Clinical Resource Management Committee and
serves as a member of the Finance Committee. He is also the President
of Greater Houston Anesthesiology (GHA).
