Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital to Extend Pediatric Specialties Throughout
Houston Area
Houston, Texas, May 1, 2006
– One of Houston’s premier pediatric hospitals is changing its name as it prepares to extend top-quality care throughout the Greater Houston area: Memorial Hermann Children’s Hospital is now Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital.
“Our new name and logo reflect what we have been doing for the past two decades – putting children first by providing innovative, specialized healthcare to Houston’s youngest patients,” said the hospital’s CEO Steve Allen, M.D., MBA. “We will celebrate our 20th anniversary this year by expanding those services to other Memorial Hermann hospitals.”
Over the next 12 months, Children’s Memorial Hermann will standardize the high-quality pediatric care provided by other hospitals within the system. For families in some communities, this will mean more convenient access to subspecialists in neonatology, neurology, pulmonology and gastroenterology.
“This program also will leverage Memorial Hermann’s existing strengths, such as the ability to instantaneously share medical records and images,” Allen explained. “While many illnesses and injuries can be treated effectively at our community hospitals, patients who require highly specialized care in the Texas Medical Center can be seamlessly transferred thanks to our specialized transport teams and electronic medical records system.”
Children’s Memorial Hermann treats about 37,000 patients in the Texas Medical Center each year. Approximately 40,000 more children are treated in seven other Houston area locations. Across the Memorial Hermann system, Memorial Hermann operates more than 300 pediatric beds.
