Dan S. Wilford

Wilford became president & CEO of Memorial Hermann Healthcare System in 1984, and quickly helped build what now stands as one of the largest not-for-profit health care systems in the U.S. Today, Memorial Hermann facilities and programs include nine acute care hospitals and two long-term acute care hospitals, a physician network for primary and specialty care, retirement living and nursing homes, wellness programs, rehabilitation and home health programs and an air ambulance service. Memorial Hermann's more than 13,000 employees are not merely staff members - they are self-proclaimed Partners in Caring. Conceived by Wilford more than 15 years ago, the unique employee-driven Partners in Caring program represents Memorial Hermann employees' shared commitment to deliver to every patient, visitor and customer the best possible experience.

“Dan’s work at Memorial Hermann has spurred dramatic advances in access and care to the community of Houston,” said AHA President Dick Davidson. “He has helped change the culture and focus of many institutions in their pursuit of better care for patients and families and his thoughtful and ethical leadership, integrity and spiritual values has been noted by his peers.”

In addition to his role at Memorial Hermann, Wilford has demonstrated his leadership and commitment to improving health care through education and research through other awards and recognition he has received. He served on AHA’s Section for Health Care Systems governing council from 1994 through 1996 and was involved at various levels as a Regional Policy Board delegate since 1980. Mr. Wilford is a Fellow and regent of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), VHA founder and past board chairman, Texas Hospital Association (THA) board member, and Healthcare Research and Development Institute (HRDI) board member. In 1997, he received the ACHE Gold Medal Award and the THA Earl C. Collier Award.
