Katy,
Texas, March 1, 2005 – The
diabetes education program at Memorial
Hermann Katy Hospital recently
became the first in Katy to earn recognition from the American
Diabetes Association (ADA).
In order to win
ADA recognition, a program must meet the National Standards for Diabetes
Self Management, with a staff of knowledgeable healthcare professionals
helping patients take control of their own diabetes management.
The
individualized program at Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital begins
with a one-on-one session with a certified diabetes educator, followed
by a group class covering self-care skills for better diabetes
management.
Topics include: understanding the disease process, insulin resistance,
nutritional management, physical activity, preventing and detecting
long-term complications, blood glucose monitoring, goal setting
and problem solving. |
