Diabetes Education Recognized at Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital

Shamim Ali, M.D., dietitian and certified diabetes educator Diana Noren, and Madge Richardson, R.N., celebrate the American Diabetes Association’s recognition of the diabetes education program at Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital.

Katy, Texas, March 1, 2005 – The diabetes education program at Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital recently became the first in Katy to earn recognition from the American Diabetes Association (ADA).

In order to win ADA recognition, a program must meet the National Standards for Diabetes Self Management, with a staff of knowledgeable healthcare professionals helping patients take control of their own diabetes management.

The individualized program at Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital begins with a one-on-one session with a certified diabetes educator, followed by a group class covering self-care skills for better diabetes management. Topics include: understanding the disease process, insulin resistance, nutritional management, physical activity, preventing and detecting long-term complications, blood glucose monitoring, goal setting and problem solving.

For more information about the diabetes education program at Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital, call 281-395-7590. All participants must be referred by a physician. Most private insurance policies and Medicare cover the cost of the program.
