Specialty Rehabilitation
The Specialty Rehabilitation Program at Memorial Hermann|TIRR provides services for patients who have acute and chronic neurological and neuromuscular disorders, movement disorders and multiple trauma. The rehabilitation team at TIRR is highly skilled in managing the complexity of medical, physical and psychosocial issues you may encounter as you prepare to return to the community.
Diagnoses include, but are not limited to:
- Neurological and neuromuscular disorders
- Multiple sclerosis
- Parkinson’s disease
- Guillain-Barre syndrome
- Chronic inflammatory demyelinating neuropathy
- Post-polio syndrome
- West Nile virus
- Multiple system atrophy and olivopontine cerebellar atrophy
- Polymyositis/dermatomyositis
- Other neuropathies and myopathies
- Multiple trauma and other non-neurological diagnoses
- Multiple fractures and injuries
- Crush injuries
- Collagen vascular diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and systemic sclerosis
Specialty Rehabilitation Program patients require medical management, intensive therapy, education and training to improve strength, endurance and functional skills. The goals of the program are functional independence, adjustment to disability and return to a productive and meaningful life.
