Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital

Ambulatory Medicine Center

Aquatic Therapy

Aquatic therapy and rehabilitation can speed recovery and enhance treatment for clients with a variety of diagnoses.

The pool in our Ambulatory Medicine Center can accommodate two to four patients at a time. The buoyancy of water allows earlier movement for people who are unable to tolerate land-based therapy due to pain, weakness or weight-bearing limitations.

The pool features a state-of-the-art underwater treadmill for cardiac conditioning and gait training, as well as a hydraulic lift that helps non-ambulatory clients enter and leave the pool.

Aquatic therapy is appropriate in most cases for a broad range of conditions, including:

  • Lumbar and cervical spine disorders
  • General musculoskeletal injuries
  • Pre-surgical and post-surgical rehabilitation including hip and knee replacements
  • Cardiovascular conditioning
  • Neurological disorders such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease
  • Arthritic conditions
  • Metabolic or muscular disorders such as obesity and diabetes
  • Sport-specific strength and conditioning programs
  • Chronic pain such as fibromyalgia
