Center For Joint Replacement

Terry A. Clyburn, M.D.
Assistant professor of the department of orthopedic surgery and director of joint implant research at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, Dr. Clyburn has been board certified in Orthopedic Surgery since 1984. He heads Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center’s Center of Excellence in Joint Replacement.

The creator of the Clyburn Dynamic External Fixator (Zimmer TM), he continues to work with engineers on the creation of improved prostheses for the hip and knee. Widely published and a frequent lecturer, Dr. Clyburn serves as orthopedic consultant for the Gulf States Hemophilia Center.

Thomas O. Clanton, M.D.
Professor and chairman of the department of orthopedic surgery at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston. Board certified since 1984, Dr. Clanton is a former president of the Texas Society for Sports Medicine. Associate editor of Foot and Ankle International, he is widely published and lectures throughout the United States, Mexico, Japan and Europe.

Dr. Clanton currently serves on the Board of Councilors of the International Federation of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He has worked with the athletic programs at Rice University since 1982 as an orthopedic consultant, and more recently, as one of two head team physicians there.  In addition, he is the newly appointed lead team physician for the Houston Rockets, and has served as a team orthopedist for the Houston Texans since their NFL debut in Houston in 2002.

Dhiren S. Sheth, M.D.
Assistant professor of the department of orthopedic surgery at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston and board certified since 2001, Dr. Sheth is an author of Total Knee Anthroplasty in Patients with Hemophilia, published in the Journal of Anthroplasty, 2002, Functional and Oncological Outcome of Acetabular Reconstruction for the Treatment of Metastatic Disease, the Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, 2000, and Conventional and Dedifferentiated Parosteal Osteosarcoma, Diagnosis and Treatment, in the journal Cancer, 1996.

   

The Spine Center

Vivek Kushwaha, M.D.
Chief of the spine surgery service at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center and a clinical instructor at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston. Board certified in Orthopedics, Dr. Kushwaha specializes in post-traumatic adult spine deformity and adult degenerative spinal conditions of the cervical and lumbar spine.

Dr. Kushwaha is widely published and an expert in the latest techniques in kyphoplasty, thermal neucleoplasty, TLIF, disk replacement and micropedoscopic diskectomy. He is the author of numerous articles including: Coccidioidomycosis of Bones and Joints, in Clinical Orthopedics and Related Research, 1996, and Voluntary Scapulothoracic Dislocation: A Case Report, the American Journal of Orthopedic Surgery, 1997.

Rex Marco, M.D.
Board certified, Dr. Marco is an assistant professor of the department of orthopedic surgery at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston and a former faculty member at Baylor College of Medicine. He is credited with more than 80 scientific publications and regional, national, and international presentations.

Dr. Marco specializes in the treatment of degenerative spinal disorders, adult and pediatric scoliosis, reconstructive surgery for spinal column tumors and trauma, revision spinal surgery and musculoskeletal oncology. He treats patients with degenerative disorders of the neck and back as well as bone tumors and spinal disorders.

B. Christoph Meyer, M.D.
A former assistant professor of the department of orthopedic surgery at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, Dr. Meyer was the recipient of an orthopedic fellowship at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, New York, and the Kenton D. Leatherman Spine Center Fellowship in Louisville, Kentucky.

A graduate of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, he won the Orthopedic Hospital Award for Excellence in clinical medicine and research. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.

Guy L. Clifton, M.D.
Professor and chairman of the department of neurosurgery at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, Dr. Clifton holds the Nancy, Clive, and Pierce Runnells Distinguished Chair in Neurosurgery. A former professor at the Medical College of Virginia, he is chief of neurosurgery service at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center and the recipient of a Brain Injury Association of Texas Lifetime Achievement Award.

Dr. Clifton has been included in America’s Top Doctors and Best Doctors. Widely published and a frequent lecturer, Dr. Clifton has been on the editorial boards of Orthopedics, Journal of Neurotrauma and Spinal Cord.

Amir Malik M.D.
An assistant professor of neurosurgery at UT Medical School at Houston, Dr. Malik is the recipient of a CNS Resident Trauma Award and a Codman Fellowship and an author of Improved Functional Recovery in a Rat Traumatic Brain Injury Model Using a Novel Dehydroepiandrosterone Analog, accepted for publication by the Journal of Neurotrauma.

David J. MacDougall, D.O., P.A.
A former president of the Houston Pituitary Society, Dr. MacDougall is the author of Resolution of a Traumatic Epidural Hematoma of the Cervical Spine: Diagnosis and Follow-up with MRI SCAN, the Journal of Neurology.
   

The Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center Hand Center

Idris Gharbaoui, M.D.
Assistant professor of the department of orthopedic surgery at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, Dr. Gharbaoui is director for hand/microsurgery for the residency program and medical director of Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center’s Hand Center. Dr. Gharbaoui’s areas of specialization are hand and upper-extremity surgery, wrist and elbow surgery, microsurgery, pediatric upper-extremity surgery, brachial plexus and peripheral nerve surgery.

Gloria Romeo Gogola, M.D.
Assistant professor of the department of orthopedic surgery at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, Dr. Gogola specializes in pediatric hand and upper-extremity disorders. Dr. Gogola is a frequent presenter and the author or coauthor of many publications.
