Surgery & Recovery
Prior to surgery patients meet with the Joint Coordinator and medical team to discuss all details including:
- Surgery schedule
- Rehabilitation exercises
- Safety precautions
- Pain management
- Recovery schedule
After surgery patients begin a four day post-operative rehabilitation program. They have a unique opportunity to participate in group therapy, dining and other activities to regain their strength and mobility.
Rapid Recovery Program
For those who qualify – in good health with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 35 or less – the Center’s Rapid Recovery Program offers minimally invasive surgical techniques that result in minimized blood loss, shortened surgical time, and reduced risk of infection and complications of anesthesia. Additional program benefits include:
- VIP treatment
- Less pain
- Reduced trauma
- Accelerated therapy
- Shortened hospital stays
- Quicker recoveries
Prior to surgery, all pre-admission testing, including blood work, electrocardiograms and anesthesia assessment, are overseen by a total joint care coordinator. The coordinator is accessible throughout a patient’s stay and after discharge.
Education is a key feature of the program. Weekly pre-operative education for hip and knee replacement prepares patients for surgery and helps them understand what to expect.
State-of-the-art operating rooms are reserved specifically for joint replacements. Recovery takes place in a unit dedicated for joint replacements. Rehabilitation plans are formulated by a licensed therapist. Group therapy sessions are also available and encouraged among total joint replacement patients.
Amenities
While recovering, patients receive:
- A luncheon, two days post-surgery, for the patient and their family
- A complimentary 15-minute massage to provide added comfort
- Private rooms on the unit so that family and friends may visit anytime
- Accommodations for one family member or friend to stay overnight
- Valet parking validated on the day of pre-admission and the day of surgery only
