Child Life
Child Life at Memorial Hermann strives to meet children's medical needs, with special attention to their unique emotional and social needs. We blend education with play in creative ways to help children and their families cope with the demands of surgery and hospitalization.
Child Life specialists assist in preparing your child for upcoming medical or surgical procedures by using books and pamphlets, teaching dolls and medical play materials. Child Life specialists will be wherever they're needed -- in the room with your child, in the surgical area or with family members -- to make hospitalization a more comfortable experience.
All Child Life programs help take children's minds off of their illness and hospital stay. Services and amenities include daily playroom activities, an indoor playground and children's library plus play activities in patient rooms.
The Half Pint Children's Library provides audio and written educational and diversional materials for children and adolescents. Playrooms on each floor accommodate children of all ages, including teens.
Child Life also provides the Topper Channel, an in-room movie channel, and plans birthday and holiday parties for children in the hospital. Special visitors, such as animal-assisted therapy programs, create welcome distractions for young patients.
