Program Overview


Goals of the Program

  • Recruit, select and enroll individuals who will successfully complete the program, pass the American Registry of Radiologic Technoligists (ARRT) board examination, and enter the job market.
  • Offer a meaningul and well-integrated curriculum that exceeds the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) Curriculum Guidelines and ARRT content specifications and is updated and expanded as the profession advances.
  • Promote research and scholarly activities that encourage professional growth and encourage a commitment for life-long learning.
  • Facilitate development of applied skills in effective communication, critical thinking, and problem solving in the practice of radiography.
  • Graduate individuals who are able to demonstrate "entry-level" skills as specified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), therefore meeting the needs of the medical community. (JRCERT Required)

Duration

The program begins July 1 each year and lasts 24 consecutive months. The academic calendar is divided into quarters and includes vacation and break time for students.

Commitment

The program requires students to spend 35-40 hours per week in classroom and clinical settings. Normally, students are assigned a 7 a.m. – 3:20 p.m., Monday through Friday schedule.

Occasionally, students are assigned to Saturday or Sunday rotations for trauma experience, with compensatory time off given during the week. Evening rotations may be assigned on a limited basis, but students are not assigned to more than 40 hours per week.

For clinical rotations, students are assigned to the following facilities: Memorial Hermann Southwest, Memorial Hermann Memorial City, Memorial Hermann Northwest, Memorial Hermann Sugar Land, Memorial Hermann Katy and Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center. Students must be able to rotate to all of these facilities and provide their own transportation.

Hours spent in the classroom, lab and clinic per week vary as follows:

First Year
5 days for illness, personal business, etc. for each 6-month period

5 days for illness, personal business, etc. for each 6-month period
5 days vacation at Christmas/New Year's
5 days spring break in April or May
6 holidays

First year:

Students who officially withdraw during the first 10 class days are eligible for a 100 percent tuition refund for the year. No refunds will be granted for withdrawals after day 10.

Financial Assistance

Students do not receive a salary or stipend while in the program. This program is approved for Veterans Administration and Texas Rehabilitation Commission benefits only. The school does not participate in federally secured loans or grants (Pell Grant, etc.) nor is the program approved for the Hazelwood Act.

Dress Code

Students must wear uniforms and follow the program’s dress code policies. Students wear hunter green scrub shirts and pants. School patches are purchased along with the school uniform and lab jackets.
