Advanced Mammography Program
If
you’re a registered radiologic technologist and want to specialize
in mammography, then Memorial Hermann’s Advanced Mammography
Program can get you there in six weeks. This program prepares technologists to perform mammography procedures
under the direct supervision of credentialed mammography specialists.
Participants also can achieve the clinical competencies required for
the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) examination
for certification in mammography.
Upon satisfactory completion of the program, the radiologic technologist
will be able to:
- Identify the
basic anatomical structure and physiology of the breast
- Classify malignant
and benign breast disease
- Explain benefits
versus risk of mammography in the detection of breast cancer
- Educate patients
on the risk factors associated with breast cancer
- Prepare patients
for examination of the breast
- Document patient
history in proper format
- Discuss the
importance of Breast Self Exam (BSE) in the detection of breast
cancer
- Have a working
knowledge of the basic physics of mammography equipment including
compression devices, tube selection, filtration, screen/film
combination, dose
- Introduction
to BI-RADS as described by the American College of Radiology
(ACR)
- Critique technical
quality of mammography films
- Have a working
knowledge of breast compression, basic standard positioning,
additional/modifications of positions to include breast implants,
interventional exams
- Perform Mammography
Quality Standard Acts (MQSA) quality control test
