Track 1 – For the technologist working in a CT department but not registered. These students would have access to clinical experiences for approximately forty hours per week and would not need any other clinical rotations. They are required to attend all classroom instruction and their clinical competencies will be monitored by the program. Worked hours will be considered “clinical experience”.

Track 2 – For the technologist not working in a CT department. These students will spend at least three, eight hour shifts per week in a CT department gaining clinical experience and obtaining competencies. This is in addition to any outside job they may have. The students are required to attend all classroom instruction and their competencies will be monitored by the program. Clinical sites are limited; therefore enrollment will be limited to the number of clinical sites available.

Objectives

  1. Provide registered Radiologic Technologists with the cognitive and psychomotor skills required to perform as a technologist specialized in Computed Tomography.
  2. Prepare technologists to gain clinical experience and perform CT examinations under qualified supervision.
  3. Document required clinical competencies as required by the ARRT examination for certification in Computed Tomography.
  4. Provide an understanding of the physics of CT, sectional anatomy, patient care, scanning protocols, and radiation protection as defined by the ARRT.
  5. Underscore the need for quality control and professionalism in the clinical environment.
