Low Cost Heart Screenings for Athletes

Undiagnosed potentially fatal heart abnormalities can strike children and adults without warning during athletic and non-athletic activities. Several young athletes in Houston have died of undetected heart conditions in the last year. In order to help prevent this from occurring again, The Roger Clemens Institute and the Memorial Hermann Heart & Vascular Institute-Texas Medical Center have teamed up to offer low cost heart screenings for athletes, ages 8 and up.

Heart screening includes an electrocardiogram (EKG) and echocardiogram. An EKG tests the electrical activity of the heartbeat and an echocardiogram is an ultrasound that shows the shape and size of various parts of the heart.

Test results will be reviewed and discussed with you by a board certified cardiologist or pediatric cardiologist. No physician referral is required to schedule an exam.

Memorial Hermann is leading the push to bring cardiovascular testing to schools; screening young athletes. The hospital, working with physicians at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, is currently offering the early cardiovascular screenings.  Learn more.

Cost is $150 (an approximate savings of $700)

Payment may be made by cash, check or credit card. No insurance will be accepted.
