1930s |
Memorial makes special effort to educate public about value of
hospital maternity care. Hospital receives first Hyperpyrexia (fever
box) machine, bronchoscope, electrocardiograph, electroencephalogram
and an electromagnet, and begins lab procedures for determining basal
metabolism rate. |

1931
|
With
help of an anonymous donor, Memorial installs the first Drinker Respirator
for children, a machine called a "baby breather" used to
resuscitate babies and to help those too weak to breathe on their
own. The machine is the first of its kind in the South. |

1932
|
With permission of the Baptist General Convention, hospital is
renamed Memorial Hospital in hope that donors will set up memorials
in the form of buildings, equipment and endowments. In first 25 years
of existence, the hospital has provided $500,000 in free services
to Houston and South Texas. |
