Hermann Healthcare System Awards
2007
- Press Ganey recently recognized Memorial Hermann
and three of its hospitals for its innovative approach to customer experiences. For its major initiatives the Art of Heart Patient Experience and Your Story, Our Passion Cancer Patient Experience programs, Memorial Hermann received the Press Ganey Success Story Award. Both programs track patient experiences in an attempt to better serve patients and families throughout the continuum of care. The Art of Heart is part of the Memorial Hermann Heart and Vascular service line, while Your Story, Our Passion is part of the System’s Cancer service line.
- For the third consecutive year, the Memorial Hermann system was named among the nation’s most wired healthcare systems, according to the results of the 2007 Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study released today in the July issue of Hospitals & Health Networks magazine.

- In August, Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center was named as one of the nation's top 100 leaders in performance improvement, one of just 15 academic medical centers to have earned the distinction. The award was given by Thomson Healthcare, the leading provider of decision support solutions that help organizations across the healthcare industry improve clinical and business performance.
- Memorial Hermann Healthcare System was named by the Houston Business Journal as one of Houston’s Best Places to Work based on employee votes. This marks the fourth consecutive year Memorial Hermann has received the award.
- Memorial Hermann|TIRR has been listed among the nation’s top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report, in the magazine’s annual “America’s Best Hospitals” issue published in July. Memorial Hermann|TIRR, which has been listed for 17 years, moved up to the fourth spot among rehabilitation hospitals.
- On June 21, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) gave Memorial Hermann top national ranking in treating heart failure. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Out of 4,807 hospitals nationwide, 4 hospitals in the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System were among 38 that received a “better than expected” ranking for heart failure. Memorial Hermann Healthcare System was the only hospital group in Texas to receive a “better than expected” ranking in this category.
- VHA Inc., a national healthcare alliance, presented to Memorial Hermann Healthcare System a total of 10 2007 VHA Leadership Awards for Clinical Excellence on May 25, honoring the hospital for meeting or exceeding national performance standards for clinical care in specific areas. Memorial Hermann was also one of five hospitals nationwide to be recognized with a 2007 VHA Leadership Award for Community Benefit for its efforts to provide healthcare that matches the needs of its community. Memorial Hermann hospitals recognized include Memorial Hermann Katy, Memorial Hermann The Woodlands, Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center, Memorial Hermann Southeast, Memorial Hermann Southwest and Memorial Hermann Sugar Land.
- On June 27, the Texas Health Care Quality Institute has awarded Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center, Memorial Hermann Northwest, Memorial Hermann Katy, Memorial Hermann Sugar Land, and Memorial Hermann The Woodlands its Quality Improvement Award, the highest honor given by the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization for Texas. Memorial Hermann Southeast earned the Quality Improvement Achievement Award.
2006
- In December 2006, Memorial Hermann was the first not-for-profit healthcare organization in Texas to make our financial reports and tax returns available to the public on our Web site.
- Memorial Hermann received recognition for its Web site during the Strategic Health Care Communications’ 10th Annual Health Care Internet Conference. Memorial Hermann received two awards – Best Overall Internet Site and eHealth Organizational Commitment. This marks the fifth consecutive year Memorial Hermann has received Web site recognition from Strategic Health Care Communications.
- Memorial Hermann Healthcare System was named by the Houston Business Journal as one of Houston’s Best Places to Work based on employee votes. This marks the third consecutive year Memorial Hermann has received the award.
- Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital is the only healthcare facility in Houston and one of just six in the nation to receive the Excellence in Life Support Award from the Extra-Corporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO).
- Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center and Memorial Hermann|TIRR have again been listed among the nation’s top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report, in the magazine’s annual “America’s Best Hospitals” issue. Memorial Hermann|TIRR, which has been listed for 17 years, was ranked 5th among rehabilitation hospitals. Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center ranked 35th in kidney disease treatment and 43rd in the ear, nose and throat specialty.
- Memorial Hermann Heart & Vascular Institute-Memorial City is a 2006 recipient of a Leadership Award for clinical excellence in cardiac care from VHA Inc., a national healthcare alliance. This is the second consecutive year the institute has won the award.
- The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) has once again designated Memorial Hermann Life Flight as the best of the best in awarding its annual Air Medical Service Award. Life Flight also received the Air Medical Service Award in 2001.
2005
- In the fall of 2005, Memorial Hermann took the unusual step of publishing data related to three dimensions of quality: clinical quality, patient safety and service quality on this Web site. To date, no other Houston healthcare provider has followed suit.
- The Forum for
Healthcare Strategists recognized Memorial Hermann’s
Web site with the Platinum Award (top honor) for Best Overall Internet
Site; with a Gold Award for Best Health/Healthcare Content; and as
the winner of the CEO eHealthcare Commitment Award.
- COR
Healthcare Resources/Medicine
on the Net recognized Memorial Hermann
with Web Excellence Awards in the areas of Outstanding Content and
Best User Interface.
- Memorial Hermann
Healthcare System for the second consecutive year is recognized
as the highest-rated Houston-based hospital organization in the
Houston Business Journal’s 2005 “Best Places to
Work” list
- Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center ranked among the country's top providers of treatment for kidney disease and urology in U.S. News & World Report' s annual “America's Best Hospitals” edition.
- The hospitals of Memorial Hermann Healthcare System were recognized among the nation's 100 Most Wired Hospitals by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine in recognition of significant investment in health information technology.
2004
- For
the third consecutive year, The Forum for Healthcare Strategists
recognized Memorial Hermann’s Web site with the top award
for its CEO eHealthcare Commitment; with a Silver Award for Best
Interactive
Site; and with a Distinction for Best Overall Internet Site.
- The Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center transplant team won the American
Liver Foundation’s (ALF) National Excellence Award for outstanding clinical results
achieved by the Texas
Liver Center.
- Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center ranked among the nation’s top health
providers again this year according to U.S. News & World
Report. The hospital’s kidney
disease program ranks
48th,
and the hormonal disorder program ranks 39th in the magazine’s
2004 Best Hospital nationwide survey.
- Memorial Hermann
Healthcare System emerges as the highest-rated Houston-based hospital
organization in the Houston Business Journal’s
2004 “Best Places to Work” list
- In a survey conducted
by the Houston Business
Group on Health (HBGH)
and Employee
Benefit Solutions, Inc. (EBS), Memorial Hermann
topped all others as the system employers most want in their employee healthcare
network.
- Memorial Hermann’s
Emergency Psychiatric Response Team was recognized by the Voluntary
Hospitals of America (VHA) as a system finalist for Operational Performance
and Service. The award recognizes improved admission times and decreased
medical admissions for psychiatric patients.
- The Texas Association
of Homes and Services for the Aging (TAHSA) recognized University
Place Nursing Center for clinical excellence as measured by the statewide
Quality Reporting System (QRS).
- Memorial Hermann
Laboratory Services earned first runner-up recognition in the Medical
Lab of the Year contest conducted by Medical
Laboratory Observer (MLO) magazine.
- Memorial
Hermann Southwest joined an elite group of national cancer programs
when it received the American
College of Surgeons (ACS) Commission on Cancer’s highest level of approval.
- Memorial
Hermann Memorial City earned a Star Award, given by the Houston
West Chamber of Commerce (HWCOC). The award recognizes an outstanding
business that has contributed to the west Houston community, both
in economic development and social responsibility.
- Memorial
Hermann The Woodlands earned a 2004 Hometown Hero Award from The
Woodlands Operating Company. The Hospital is one of only two corporations
and four individuals to be honored in 2004.
- Memorial
Hermann The Woodlands was recognized as a Press Ganey 2004 Compass
Award winner. The honor was given for exceptional performance improvement
in inpatient satisfaction surveys in the 100-299 bed category.
- The Texas Association
of Homes and Services for the Aging (TAHSA) recognized University
Place Nursing Center with a score of 88 out of a possible 100 for
clinical excellence as measured by the statewide Quality Reporting
System (QRS). University Place’s score puts it 28 points above
the state average and first among the 36 member facilities within
the southeast region of TAHSA.
- Memorial Hermann
Laboratory Services won first-runner-up honors in the national Medical
Lab of the Year contest, awarded annually by the magazine Medical
Laboratory Observer (MLO).
2003
- For
the second consecutive year, The Forum for Healthcare Strategists
awarded Memorial Hermann high honors for healthcare Web sites that
serve
consumers and medical professionals.
- The Commission on
Cancer of the American College of Surgeons, which sets the benchmark
for cancer programs
across the country, awarded a “Certificate
of Approval” to Memorial
Hermann Northwest for its “Community
Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program.” The cancer program
at Memorial Hermann Northwest also received credit for its overall
dedication
to
making progress in cancer care and treatment.
- The Health Ethics
Trust, a division of the Council of Ethical Organizations, presented
Memorial
Hermann Healthcare System with a Best Compliance
Practices Award, recognizing commitment and accomplishments in Integrating
Audit and Internal Controls with Ethics and Compliance.
- Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center earned high marks in U.S. News & World
Report’s annual survey of the nation’s best hospitals.
The publication ranked Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center as one of the
top 50 in
the nation for treating kidney disease and providing specialty
care.
- Memorial Hermann
was honored with the Texas Hospital Association’s
2003 Excellence in Community Service Award for an innovative
school-based healthcare program launched in 1997.
- The American College
of Surgeons Committee on Trauma Verification/Consultation Program for
Hospitals
reverified Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center as a Level I trauma center.
- As a pioneer in nurturing
spirituality within organizational initiatives, Memorial Hermann received
the Willis Harman Spirit at
Work
Award.
- The American Hospital
Association (AHA) presented its Award of Honor to Dan S. Wilford, former
president and chief executive
officer of Memorial Hermann, for his national leadership in improving healthcare
quality.
- The Wellness Councils
of America (WELCOA), North America’s premier
resource for worksite wellness, and Houston Well City,
a local initiative promoting corporate health, honored Memorial Hermann’s
commitment to being one of “America’s Healthiest Companies.” WELCOA
awarded Memorial Hermann a Gold-Level Well Workplace
Award for successfully building comprehensive worksite wellness initiatives
and for demonstrating
and documenting concrete outcomes related to behavior
change, cost effectiveness and return on investment.
- Memorial Hermann’s
Customer Relationship Management (CRM) initiative was among 14 international
companies to win a 2003
Peppers & Rogers
Group “1 to 1” Innovator Award. The prestigious
marketing awards program recognizes the successful

2002
- The
Forum for Healthcare Strategists awarded Memorial Hermann its highest
honor for healthcare Web sites that serve consumers and medical professionals.
The site received the 2002 eHealthcare Leadership Platinum Award
for Best Site Design.
- Health Access Texas
(HAT) honored Memorial Hermann and President Dan
S. Wilford with the 2002 Health Policy Award for outstanding use
of health policy to improve access for the uninsured to healthcare services.
- The National Committee
for Quality Health Care (NCQHC) honored Memorial Hermann and President
Dan S. Wilford for outstanding accomplishments
during and after the 2001 flooding from Tropical Storm Allison.
- For its national
leadership in employee blood drive participation, Memorial Hermann
received a 2001 Platinum Award, the highest
award given by America’s Blood Centers.
- Memorial
Hermann Katy received a 2001 Press Ganey Compass Award, honoring outstanding
