Management and Organizational Consultation
Memorial Hermann Employee and Family Assistance Program provides single-source assistance for companies whose employees may face stress from organizational change or exhibit high absenteeism or inappropriate behavior. EFAP develops a response package that includes management solutions, communication strategies and counseling services for employees.

Staff members are available 24 hours a day to provide coaching and consultation whenever supervisors need to respond to trouble. EFAP professionals work one on one or in groups with managers to provide support for a variety of critical workplace issues.

Companies also use EFAP to help clarify management expectations and boundaries, navigate team dynamics and develop programs that improve:

  • Job satisfaction
  • Turnover reduction
  • Recruitment and retention strategies
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Productivity and motivation
  • Team effectiveness
  • Time management
  • Change management
  • Conflict resolution
  • Policies and procedures management
  • Safety and risk management
  • On-site crisis intervention
  • Employee and supervisor training

Drug-Free Workplace Development
Memorial Hermann's EFAP can help develop a drug-free workplace program with policies and procedures geared to a company's corporate culture and environment.

Education programs teach employees about substance abuse. Management training familiarizes supervisors with the disease of chemical dependency, the behaviors that give reasonable cause for drug and alcohol testing and procedures for referring an employee.

Once an employee has been referred, substance abuse professionals complete a thorough assessment, prepare an individual treatment plan and provide reports on employee compliance with counselor recommendations. For employees who refer themselves, strict confidentiality is ensured.

EFAP drug-free workplace services include:

  • Development of company policies and procedures
  • Employee education
  • Comprehensive employee and family assistance resources
  • Management training
  • Federal Department of Transportation-compliant substance abuse professional (SAP) services for employees who test positive for drugs and alcohol. Commercially licensed drivers and pipeline workers are regulated by DOT, which requires employees who test positive to see an SAP.

Trauma and Crisis Intervention
Stress from a personal or workplace crisis can be debilitating to individuals and organizations. An individual in crisis may suffer a variety of physical, emotional and behavioral problems that can result in confusion, poor concentration, diminished decision-making skills, disorientation and refusal to accept responsibility.

Memorial Hermann's EFAP offers stress management services tailored to your company's needs. Individual and group interventions include:

  • Pre-crisis preparation
  • Critical-incident stress debriefing
  • Symptom identification and assessment
  • Counseling and support
  • Education
  • Training
  • Follow-up referral

On-site individual or group intervention and management can help employees deal with downsizing, death, serious accident or injury, tragedy or acts of violence in the workplace. Follow-up individual counseling is also available for employees who require ongoing assistance.

Counseling
Counseling services through Memorial Hermann EFAP are available for a wide range of needs. Sessions may consist of meeting with EFAP staff and/or counselors from EFAP's mental health benefit's network. Counseling is available for:

  • Mental health
  • Substance abuse
  • Marital
  • Family
  • Grief
  • Financial
  • Legal
  • Dependent care
  • Critical incident stress
  • Parent training

Strict confidentiality guidelines give employees and management the freedom and comfort to solve problems without co-workers or supervisors being involved.

Educational seminars and supervisory training
Memorial Hermann EFAP offers a broad range of classes, seminars and workshops designed to boost the confidence of employees and family members.

Training seminars are available to help managers develop professional skills they need to meet workplace demands - from learning how to build a culture of support to identifying employees with job performance issues related to personal problems.

EFAP also develops classes and workshops to meet specific needs. Clients may also take advantage of the Memorial Hermann Speakers Bureau, offering expert advice on a wealth of topics.

Examples of seminars include:

  • Mental health in the workplace
  • Violence in the workplace
  • Stress and anger management
  • Time management
  • Addictions and addictive behaviors
  • Dependent/elder care
  • Managing change

24-hour telephone counseling access
Counseling services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for eligible participants. All Memorial Hermann EFAP professionals are licensed by the state of Texas to provide psychotherapy, social work, substance abuse counseling and other similar services.

Eligible employees and their family members can access services 24 hours a day via local or toll-free number. After obtaining essential information, a representative will page the appropriate EFAP counselor(s), who will then call the employee within 30 minutes.

Memorial Hermann EFAP differs from most assistance programs because patients needing counseling can actually talk to a professional rather than just obtaining a referral. In times of emergency, the program offers immediate, skilled advice and instruction.

Assessment and referral services
Assessment and referral services through Memorial Hermann EFAP provide another means for eligible employees and family members to treat specific problems.

Based on information gathered during the interview process, EFAP professionals can make referrals to specific providers who will best meet their needs. Referrals within the patient's health benefit plans are scheduled, if possible.
